Becky worked with four school groups local to Godinton House & Gardens in Ashford to co-create an installation in the walled garden for the annual event, Sculpture in the Garden.
Pupils from Brook Community, Goat Lees and Smeeth Primary Schools visited Godinton House & Gardens for multiple days to take part in creative workshops with artist Becky and education officer Helen, inspired by special objects and rooms in Godinton House.
The children learnt how; plates were used as conversation starters, a giant key used to indicate guests were welcome, the wallpaper in the Chinese room got its colour and upcycled stained glass came to be a feature of the staircase.
Using collage, painting and sublimation dye printing techniques, detailed individual artworks were created on recycled ripstop fabric. The school group’s artworks were then displayed together as four large and colourful banners throughout July and August 2024, with a special celebration event held with families invited to play lawn games and enjoy the gardens for the day.
During the 2024 summer holidays Becky also facilitated family workshops every Wednesday afternoons where visitors made their own mini banners to take home.
