River of Hope at Snodland Primary School

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations Snodland Primary School commissioned Becky to work with every child in the school over one week to create a reusable art installation.

Together they co-created the River of Hope, a mixed media art installation featuring patterned wallpaper designs from each century, a stencilled fabric landscape, painted and plaited rope, wool trees and rocks and cardboard boats with key moments from the past 70 years. All the workshops took place in an outdoor classroom.

To be kind to the environment, most of the materials were sourced from local charity shops and the East Kent Mencap Scrap Store in Ramsgate. Nearly all the components of the installation will be separated and reused in other displays around the school over the summer holidays.
