Talking Tags are oversized wooden gift tags attached to benches around Rainham Shopping Centre with different conversation prompts and engraved illustrations.
The tags help to spark conversations and nurture connections between friends, families and strangers. You might learn something new, discover a shared interest or just have a nice chat.
Some of the questions include: ‘If you were a wrestler what would be your entrance theme song?’ and ‘If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?’
The Talking Tags were one of eight artist commissions for Medway Council’s Welcome Project across Rainham and Strood. The artworks were launched at a community event attended by the Mayor of Medway on Saturday 26 March 2022. The artworks continues to be on display until 31 March 2023.
Talking Tags were commissioned by Medway Council funded by The Welcome Back Fund from the European Regional Development Fund, and administered by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the objective for this funding is to create and promote a safe environment for local trade and tourism, particularly in high streets as their economies continue to cope with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
