Role
Artist
Animate Arts Company
Brief
To work with every child in the school to create high quality, long lasting and large sized artworks which celebrate the school values.
Activity
For a whole week I took over the school hall at St Georges Primary on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. I delivered 16 workshops to 14 classes and helped them to create six large scale printed banners.
The school values are based on the story of the feeding of the 5000 and include love, trust, share, respect and care. Children in Year 4 and 5 made stamps of fish and bread while younger children used shapes to stamp background patterns. The children in Year 6 attended two workshops, in the first workshop we explored the school values and considered what shapes, colours and motifs could be used to represent them. In the second workshop they created their own stamps and added them to the banners.
I think I want to be an artist now, I didn’t know you could do this!
