Catching Lives | Badge Making

Role
Artist

Brief
Design and deliver a drop-in workshop for clients at Catching Lives day centre. Catching Lives is an independent charity aimed at supporting the rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerably housed in Canterbury and East Kent.

Workshop
For this workshop I challenged the participants to create two button badges, one for themselves and one to give away at a later date.

People are usually quite curious around a badge maker, its a fun piece of kit that creates results quickly. What was particularly great about this session at Catching Lives was seeing participants come together, learning from each other how to use the machine, breaking down barriers and sharing resources like stickers and the circle cutter (another really cool tool!)

There was Polish, Bulgarian and England flags, football teams, inspirational motto’s, favourite animals and name badges created. Of those that took part, most stayed for the whole hour and half making many badges, for loved ones and for people they are yet to meet.

With thanks to Canterbury Festival Teach-Educate-Create course for programming these workshops and Newington Big Local for the amazing badge machine.
